The “Sequester,” The Budget and Other Goodies

Taking note of an article in The Weekly StandardReporter Asks Carney: Will Obama Cut Back on Lavish Vacations, Golf Trips?

So I guess a cut of 85,000,000,000[1] out of a budget of 3,800,000,000,000[1] really isn’t such a bad thing after all, is it? Maybe, just maybe . . . they could, you know, cut a bit more?

Dare I hope for such “slash and burn” legislation?

Never mind that no such budget has actually been passed by both U.S. House and U.S. Senate and been signed by Dear Leader Obama, as the U.S. Constitution supposedly requires?

Isn’t someone who was allegedly a “Constitutional law professor” supposed to notice things like these?

How is it that I, with ZERO formal schooling beyond the high school level in the law, the legislative process or the political process can notice this, but 535 people who allegedly swore to uphold and defend the Constitution blow it off without a second thought?

In my opinion, it would be worth it to pay Obama (and Biden, and Boehner, and the other 534 idiots) 1,000,000 a year, tax free, to do nothing but play golf all year around.

Just make sure that they understand that the deal is OFF the second any of them picks up any sort of writing implement or touches any sort of keyboard.

NOTES

  1. These numbers are ballpark wild-assed guesstimates, of course. As the cliche goes, “close enough for government work.”
  2. I have a habit of using the null set symbol (“∅”) to represent Federal Reserve Notes as opposed to the “dollar sign” (“$”), because the dollar is supposed to be backed by gold or silver, where the Federal Reserve Note is redeemable upon government demand from yours and my life, liberty, property and pursuit of happiness.

Ron Paul’s Farewell Address to the Congress

I don’t think that there’s any of the Establishment’s sacred cows that Dr. Paul didn’t skewer and make into hamburger patties.

Good for him!

Another PLOP! into one of my inboxes — this time, it was into the one that I maintain for the Bernalillo County Libertarian Party[1]:

GOT ADAM!
Blowback Comes Home to New Mexico

I suppose I should mention that I’ve been an admirer of Adam’s speaking skills and principles for about a year now, since we of the LPNM first heard of him. Then-State Chair Ken Cavanaugh had spoken with him about running on the Libertarian Party ticket at that time. I went to his house in Santa Fe in June 2009 for an organizing meeting.[2] I went to his Independence Day event at Santa Fe College on 4 July 2009 — that was where he made the official declaration to run for Congress as a Republican (about 12:15 AM on the 5th, actually). I was the one who got him scheduled as a guest on Hemp TV in August 2009.

I wasn’t exactly surprised when Mullins jumped into the Republican primary against Adam — the GOP has a history of running primary challenges against libertarian-leaning Republicans; they’ve been doing this with Ron Paul for twelve, fourteen years now. So when one of his campaign staffers volunteers him as a speaker for the Bernalillo County LP, well . . . . I wasn’t really against Mullins as I was FOR Adam. But then Mullins decided to do that interview with Cassy Fiano and join the smear campaign against Adam. With that decision, Mullins slit his own throat as far as I’m concerned.

I admit that I leapt to supporting Adam on a bit of blind faith on Ken Cavanaugh’s say-so. But whatever fears and reservations that I had were wiped out after talking with Adam on 21 June 2009 at the organizational meeting — I had asked him where he stood on the issue of marijuana. He responded by saying that he approached the issue from the vantage point of self-ownership. BINGO! — Hole in one!

NOTES

  1. After the Cassy Fiano interview, I had put “@mullinsforcongress.com” into my mail filters in Mozilla Thunderbird, and set the filter to delete the relevant traffic without me ever having to see it. I had forgotten to do that with the BCLP email address, and thus . . . PLOP!
  2. I got lost on the way up from Albuquerque, had to call Bill Koehler after arriving in Santa Fe, as Google Maps gave me bad directions.
